Basal Cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer. There will be almost 3 million lesions diagnosed and treated in the U.S. this year. Although this tumor can be found on anyone, it is most often seen on fair complexioned individuals in sun exposed areas. The average age for patients is 50 years. The majority of BCC do not metastasize but enlarge and are locally destructive.

BCC may present in many forms. The classic presentation is an enlarging papule in a sun exposed area that is translucent and upon close examination may show small blood vessels growing near the surface. Here are some examples
